Our Learners
We are thrilled to share some wonderful news! Jiranan, one of our long-time students, has passed her U.S. citizenship test!
We are incredibly proud of her dedication, perseverance, and hard work. Her journey is a true testament to the power of adult education. When she first came to the United States, she enrolled as a student determined to improve her English and build a better future. Today, she is working in the field of education, helping children learn and grow — giving back to her community in meaningful ways.
Here is her story in her own words:
“I have been a student at [LVCEF] for the past six years, since arriving in the United States. My teachers, Kathie and Jocelyne, helped me improve my English skills. They taught me about American history and prepared me for entering the workforce. Eventually, I studied civics and passed the citizenship test. I am now working in education, and I will soon take the U.S. Oath of Allegiance. My next goal is to get my driver’s license and develop my professional skills in the field of education."
Please join us in congratulating her on this incredible achievement!
As we look back on our students’ accomplishments this year, we are proud to celebrate Hodalo, winner of the 2025 NYACCE Student of the Year Award!
When she discovered LVCEF, she began her English studies with determination and a smile that lit up every room. Through countless hours of practice, conversation groups, and encouragement from peers, Hodalo’s dedication and “go get ’em” spirit inspired everyone around her.
In addition, Hodalo achieved one of her biggest goals: becoming a United States citizen. She studied for the civics test with LVCEF, and in 2023, she took the Naturalization Oath.
We are honored to recognize her hard work and success—congratulations, Hodalo!
